Two new companies enter the incubator

This May two new companies, RoboFold Ltd and Affresol Ltd, were accepted into the Carbon Trust – TTP incubator. RoboFold has a technology which enables sheet metal to be shaped using robots instead of presses, while Affresol has developed a low cost, energy-efficient building material, made from recycled plastics.

RoboFold Ltd has developed a disruptive technology platform which enables industrial robots to form shapes in sheet metal. This will save carbon both through eliminating the need for tooling (with its associated embodied carbon), and through savings in electrical energy during the process itself. The use of robots has additional benefits, which include: elimination of the press tool (meaning faster time to market and improved cash flow), the ability to make continuous design changes, and the ability to automate small batches. This platform technology can save carbon across a wide number of applications, including domestic appliances, automotive, architectural cladding, aerospace, and electrical enclosures and chassis.

Affresol Ltd has developed an insulative building material, called 'Reszinite™', which is made in a low energy fashion from recycled materials. Its initial focus is in low cost housing, but the material could be applied to a large number of alternative uses in future. Affresol’s housing can save carbon in several ways – through reduced embodied carbon during construction, through a low U value which reduces energy consumption throughout the lifetime of the house, and through the diversion of waste materials from landfill.

TTP is pleased to be working with both companies. Gregory Epps, founder of RoboFold, says ““We look forward to working closely with TTP to verify the huge value this technology offers to our customers.”
